Roving Rider
October 10th:
The weather was absolutely gorgeous as we all gathered at the Sams' Over the Hill Ranch. Everyone met in the arena to warm up their horses, and then we rode out. There were some new riders and some faces we haven't seen in awhile...Merry Von Brauch brought her Scooby and Diane Sapp had her new horse Sammy. Steve and Desi came out to ride with us as well. There were 9 riders plus a few spouses who stayed behing to chat with Andy and munch on donuts and coffee. The weather was great all morning, and although some didn't stay for lunch, several of us stayed and had a fun visit.
Thanks to the Sams for hosting the event and for the donuts & coffee!
October 24th:
The weather this day was a bit mercurial-we all woke up to a gorgeous day, but by the time we got to 9th Street the wind was starting to pick up. Nevertheless, it never became more than a stiff breeze. We received our first set of cards and all rode out toward 5th Street. After a quick stop to pose for pictures (services provided by Projections Photography-Kitty & Scott have become fixtures at most of the local rides, and we always have a great time with them and their tiny Chihuahua Gizmo) we had a nice ride out. The road was nice and soft, and there was so much gorgeous color in the leaves. We met Gary Rogers mid-way to get our second set of cards. The ride was quite shorter than we usually ride, but we all had a good time getting to know all the new people who came. We had a total of 16 riders, and 10 of them were new faces! Thanks to Lisa Porter, Carole Sanders, Donna Krakowski, Patty Vinson (who we have seen before, but is not a member), Annette Henry (Denise's daughter), Trish Hoyt (a friend of Desi and Steve's), Kaye Letchworth with her nephew Mike and her granddaughter Raye (yes we've seen them before, but not at a ride!) and Madison, a protégé of Michelle.
Thanks to a generous donation by Michelle and her husband Tim, Andy and Frances Sams, and various other members, we had a wonderful lunch of hot dogs, hamburgers, some of Andy Sams’ delicious potato salad, and plenty of drinks. A huge thanks to Gary Rogers, who had to be at the halfway point to hand out the second set of cards & also kept track of everyone's poker hands and determined the winners; thanks to Andy Quinn who helped with the barbecuing and Beth Stanley and HaroldSchmelz, who couldn't ride, but came to help set up and visit with everyone. The winner of the first prize of $50 for the best hand was Donna Krakowski, second prize of $25 went to Annette Henry, and third prize of $15 went to Michelle Ochletree.
LOOKING FORWARD TO A FUN & HORSEY 2010!
HOPE TO SEE YOU AT SOME OF OUR UPCOMING EVENTS.
